By request of the German Environmental Ministry, the Status Assessment for A. sturio, which is due every 5 years, was submitted for adoption with the Oslo Paris Convention (OSPAR )annual meeting. Under the lead of WSCS a group of experts from France, England, The Netherlands, Germany and Denmark, comprising the range states that are actively involved in restoration of the European sturgeon, reviewed the 2021 Assessment and amended it to the current status. Apart for positive trends with regard of species presence as a result of the release programs in France, Germany and the Netherlands, most of the threats noted in the previous assessment are still in place and have not sufficiently being dealt with. A new threat arising from consideration within regional recovery activities is arising with the introduction of A. oxyrinchus in the North Sea and North East Atlantic which is currently under discussion in the Netherlands and in England. The document will be made available through the WSCS website as well as through OSPAR’s website as soon as it is adopted.
