National Caviar Day Celebrated in Iran
on June 18, 2026, along with National Caviar Day, with the efforts of the Iranian Fisheries Organization, Sturgeon farmers, Caviar producers and traders and all stakeholders in the caviar industry, the 9th Sturgeon Conference was held at the Iranian Institute of Nutrition. The meeting was attended by 45 people in person and more than 150 people online.
At this national meeting and the opening ceremony, which was attended by the Deputy Minister and Director of the Iranian Fisheries Organization, the Head of the Nutrition Institute, heads of research institutions, and a number of scientific and national figures, their points of view were expressed regarding the importance of sturgeon stock resources, sustainable development programs for the aquaculture industry with an emphasis on sturgeon, the role of aquatic protein in health and food security, and increasing their presence in the people’s food basket along with incentive policies, the necessity and emphasis on innovation and technology, and the formation of a specialized working group to support this industry.
According to the report, more than 340 sturgeon farms with a capacity of more than 120 tons of meat and 171 tons of caviar have been licensed in the country. More than 20 tons of caviar were produced last year, which was exported to 33 countries.
The next speakers will emphasize the research achievements and future studies, as well as the necessity of maintaining the Iranian caviar brand in the global market and the role of caviar production in exports and foreign exchange earnings.
The introduction of the World Sturgeon Conservation Society (WSCS) and the successful holding of the 10th ISS Symposium in China and its achievements, along with other articles on genetics, nutrition, dietary supplements, management, and production of quality caviar, were discussed and exchanged.
The conference organizers, while emphasizing the continuation of the annual celebration of National Caviar Day, shared thinking, participation, and efforts to achieve valuable successes in domestic and global markets, appreciated the warm and sincere presence of all participants.
